Inclusion
Hell yeah, Inclusion! A chunk of quartz fused into a granite boulder.
Nature allows for inclusion, but we seek the things and people that are like us. We seek the comfort of the known. I am uncomfortable with my guilt about this behavior in the wider world, but not enough. Shame on me.
I know firsthand how interesting things get when I challenge my preconceived notions in the creative process. It takes a tremendous amount of energy to explore what makes me uncomfortable in the studio, but the magic happens in that explorative experience. It’s not always pretty, but I always learn something. Initially, the tangible outcome is not as important as the experience. The more I do it, the more proficient I get and it takes less energy. The outcomes get better, more interesting, and fresh!
It will always take a great amount of energy to include that which is not like us in our processes, our circles, and our habits. I wonder what kind of magic we can make if we all invited inclusions into our lives a little more? Care to join?
